NFL Fantasy Football
Week 3 Fantasy selections
So I’m slowly getting the hang of this fantasy thing. It’s a little bit fiddly at times, trying to juggle matchups, players and various other considerations as you build a workable team. I’m not exactly setting the world of fantasy football on fire at the moment, but I am enjoying another aspect to the game we all know and love. One of the real benefits of fantasy is that it allows you, actually it requires you to follow players outside of your inclination towards team loyalties. It certainly gives you an appreciation of the broad nature of the game. Anyway this week I’ve made a couple of basic calls in my team:
Dropped:
- Jamal Lewis has been sent to the bench, a pretty obvious choice given his injury status at the moment.
- LaDell Betts is no longer a part of my fantasy squad. Clinton Portis is strong, healthy and getting the carries.
Added:
- We’re welcoming Felix Jones to the team and hoping that he has a strong outing against the Panthers this week.
Looking forward to seeing:
- Maurice Jones-Drew could tear the Texans apart this week – here’s hoping.
- Marques Colston looks like he’s going to be in a dominant matchup this week.
Fantasy Virgin
Yeah, seriously – it’s not like it sounds. The simple fact of the matter is that I’ve never actually played fantasy football before. I know that might sound ridiculous, given how many people do play each season, but it’s the truth and this time around I’ve decided to take the plunge and join in.
I’ve signed up with a league at NFL.com that’s allegedly comprised of “Fantasy Virgins” (their term, not mine) so theoretically I’m up against people who have as little idea about how to manage a team as I do. My cynical mind thinks that there’s got to be at least one or two people who’ve joined the league to dominate against the inexperienced players.
In any case, I don’t really care. For me this season isn’t so much about winning (although I will of course be trying to win), but more about learning the fantasy ropes and seeing how I go managing my team through the course of the season. At the very least it adds another dimension to the enjoyment of football.
Anyway, the rubber’s about to hit the road as the fantasy draft is upon us. So soon enough I’ll be finding out how football smart I really am.
Feel free to give me as little or as much advice as you think I need in the comments. And wish me luck, I’m gonna need it.
